One of the great things about solar panels is how little maintenance they require. With no moving parts, solar systems are designed to operate reliably for 25+ years. However, a little care goes a long way in keeping your system performing at its peak.

Regular Cleaning

Queensland's climate means your panels can accumulate dust, pollen, bird droppings, and salt spray (for coastal properties). We recommend cleaning your panels every 6-12 months. A gentle hose down is usually sufficient — avoid high-pressure washers or abrasive cleaners.

Tip: Clean your panels early in the morning or late in the afternoon when they're cool. Spraying cold water on hot panels can cause thermal stress.

Monitor Your System

Most modern inverters include monitoring apps that let you track your system's performance in real-time. Check your app regularly to ensure your system is producing the expected amount of energy. A sudden drop in production could indicate a panel issue, inverter fault, or shading problem.

Check for Shading

Trees grow! A tree that wasn't causing shade when your system was installed may now be partially shading your panels. Even small amounts of shading can significantly reduce output, especially with string inverter systems. Trim any overhanging branches regularly.

Inspect Your Inverter

Your inverter is the hardest-working component of your system. Check that it's displaying a green light (normal operation) and that the display shows expected production figures. If you notice error codes or flashing lights, contact your installer.
